Putting his own well being above what is best for his party or his state, Senator Arlen Specter switched parties today. You see, Specter because of his liberal voting record and particulary because he voted for the porkulus bill in February, is afraid of losing in the republican primary next year to Rep. Pat Toomey. Of course it is no guarantee that he will win either the democratice primary of even the election next year. In fact, with the way dems are spending, America is looking to revolt against anyone who sees spending as a way to get us out of the recession and jeopardizing our children's future.
It's funny, just last month Specter said he would stay with the GOP. In a March 17 interview with The Hill newspaper, he said "I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That’s the basis of politics in America. I’m afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That’s a very important principle in the operation of our government. In the constitution on Separation of powers." Uh, so switching over to the party in control is keeping the two party system in play? Don't think so.
Now, of course many senators stepped up and gave their assessment of the situation. Senator Jim DeMint, (R-SC), who plans on endorsing Rep. Toomey in the election said this "I would rather have 30 Republicans in the Senate who really believe in principles of limited government, free markets, free people, than to have 60 that don’t have a set of beliefs.”
I couldn't agree more, look out 2010 here we come!!

What were they thinking?
We'll just mark this one in the stupid file. So, someone in the President's office gave the clear to fly the jumbo jet (officially known as Air Force One when transporting the President) over the skies of Manhattan on a clear spring day. How stupid can they be? They say they notified state and local officials but if you ask Mayor Bloomberg, he had no idea this was going to happen and would have told them NO. Word is they told law enforcement officials and asked them NOT SAY ANYTHING!
It's another example of this inexperienced, inmature, unremorseful, pre 9/11 mentality running this country. Had this been a republican administration, the left wing media would have been all over this saying they had no feelings for the folks of New York. But since this is the administration of "the one" it is chalked up to a mistake. What you might not know is another one of these fly over photo-ops had been planned to fly around the Capitol. As one who was on Capitol Hill on 9/11, I can't imagine living through that fear again. For obvious reasons, they cancelled that photo-op.
Tomorrow marks Obama's 100th day in office, only 1336 more days to go!

Do they really want to go down this road?
First, Obama released (to the dismay of his own CIA Director and 4 former CIA diretors) memos detailing interrogation procedures and then authorized the release of photos of such events. Now, he can't decide whether or not to prosecute Bush administration officials for authorizing these same interrogations in the aftermath of 9/11. Do they really want to go down this road? Obama is going down a slippery slope and making his own party look stupid.
Former CIA Director Porter Goss said the following in response to Speaker Nancy Peloisi, who was the ranking Democratic member on the House intel committee in 2002, comment that she didn't know anything about these interrogation practices. She was only there when the meetings took place with members of Congress and the CIA. Goss said "...I am slack-jawed to read that members claim to have not understood that the techniques on which they were briefed were to actually be employed; or that specific techniques such as “waterboarding” were never mentioned. It must be hard for most Americans of common sense to imagine how a member of Congress can forget being told about the interrogations of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. In that case, though, perhaps it is not amnesia but political expedience."
Obama being open to prosecuting Bush officials goes against his own campaign promise of looking forward. We are opening up a can of worms if a new administration decides to go back and prosecute the previous one for actions that they may or may not like. Let's remember when these practices were being discussed. It was months after 9/11 and the horror of watching many Americans jump from the 100th floor of WTC 1 or WTC 2 were still fresh in our minds. If we are going to go after Bush, then what about Truman, FDR, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Clinton for not taking Bin Laden when he had the chance or for that matter Obama for neglience in keeping this country safe.

DHS Secretary must go
First, she accused our brave men and women of the military as being "right-wing extremists", then she said the 9/11 terrorists came through Canada (yet another friend and ally insulted by this administration). The secretary went as far as to say that Canada is the entry point for terrorists to America. What? No wonder her former state of Arizona is being overrun with illegal immigrants. She apparently turned a blind eye to the this issue while serving as Governor.
In short, with comments like this, it is time for Napolitano to go. She obviously doesn't sense the threats we face. Like her boss, Napolitano is looking at the opposition party (or anyone who opposes their socialists agenda) as the threat to America. Just look at the first time she testified before Congress, she never once used the word "terror". Now, we longer have a "war on terror" but an "overseas contingency operation" and terrorists attacks are called "man-caused disasters". I don't know about you but I no longer feel safe and with thinking like this folks it is just a matter of time before we are hit again. Liberals have longed wanted to return us to a "pre 9/11 mentality" and it will only hurt us in the future.

R.I.P (at least until conservatives return) American Dream
The American Dream is on life support until the next conservative administration comes into office. In the era of the Obama administration, too big to fail has become as American as apple pie.
Corproations that might once have looked to expanding their products and creating new jobs now fear that if they become to big then the government will come in and take over. There would be government oversight, caps on executive pay and those pesky czars looking over their shoulders. So they decide staying small is the best way to go forgetting about creating new jobs.
Couples sitting in their home (who are currently making less than $200,000/year) are trying to decide on how to make the future brighter and financially sound. Could it be moving to a new city for higher pay or going back to school for the degree that will bring a promotion. But wait! If they take the promotion or move to a new city, they could possibly be putting themselves in a higher (over$250,000/year) tax bracket. Obama promised he would tax anyone who made over $250,000/year and see their mortgage deductions go away, no longer able to deduct from our taxes any charitable contributions we give and of course federal taxes go up. So they decide no new job, no move to a new city.
These are just two examples of where the new administration is killing the American Dream. Why succeed, the government will tax us more and regulate us more. Obama's view of "fairness" is threat to the same idea that made us great.
National welfare programs have long been targeted as a way keep the poor on welfare. Taking a job meant losing government benefits like food stamps and Medicaid and therefore it didn't pay to work. After President Clinton announced "the end of welfare as we know it", Obama is looking to bring it back in full swing except this time targeting the upper end of the economic ladder.
Dick Morris recently wrote about "upward mobility" and suggested that the Obama administration deosn't believe it (to which I agree). He, Obama, chooses to penalize anyone who makes over $250,000/year therefore disincentivizing the American Dream. Morris gave the following analogy:
"We will be like salmon swimming upstream to mate. We will overcome the currents, the waterfall, the rocks, the predators and will grapple our way up the stream. Then, at the top of the waterfall, will stand Obama the Bear, waiting to scoop us up and have us for dinner. The taxman cometh."

Week in Review
Okay so this week the Obama administration called us extremists, the Democrats led by Speaker Pelosi are dissing our protests, and the French President gives his opinion of the president (you'll like this one).
Let's take Obama first. The Department of Homeland Security released a memo this week referring to anyone who is pro-life, believes in the second amendment and federalism, believes that immigration laws should be enforced, or you are a veteran (the administation is back tracking on that one) as an extremist and a threat to national security. Hmm.. I remember one Hillary Rodham Clinton stating that if you disagree with the administration (Bush) that you were unpatriotic. I guess you can only disagree with the government when the Republicans are in control.
Our tea parties were a success. Around 300,000 people across the country let the President Obama (who decided to ignore us) we are fed up with the raise in taxes and massive spending by this administration. While the president says he is cutting taxes for 95% of Americans, 50% of them don't pay taxes and while federal taxes MAY go down, states are raising taxes as fast as the can so everyone will be hit by a tax hike. But these tea parties weren't just about taxes. They were about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They were not about losing an election. They were about what we are leaving to our children and grandchildren. They were about the government getting too big for its britches and wanting to control our lives. To insult anyone who attended the rallies shows just how much the Democrats in control, led by Speaker Pelosi, are out of touch with the american public.
On the Foreign front, French President Sarkozy let his feelings be known about our new president (and it's good). Mr. Sarkozy told a group of MPs that "Mr. Obama was inexperienced and indecisive..."he was elected two months ago and had never run a ministry. There are a certain number of things on which he has no position. And he is not always up to standard on decision-making and efficiency.” Taking note of the left's view that the president is "The Messiah", Mr. Sarkozy said he would ask Obama when he visits Normanday in June “to walk on the (English) Channel, and he’ll do it.” I guess the Obama tour wasn't as great a success as the White House would have us believe.

It is time to protest..
I was watching "Your World with Cavuto" on Fox News Monday and they interviewed a guy who said that the tea parties were "a sham and a fraud". Clearly he is a left wing nutcase who refuses to listen to reason. These tea parties are not about taxes and they are not about Republicans. They are about Americans who believe this country during the past 8 years has gone a spending spree and they must be stopped. Of course, the left would say they are "a sham and a fraud" because they refuse to listen to the voice of reason.
Americans are tired of government spending money faster than the mint can print it and in the meantime asking us to make "sacrifices." Now I will give into the notion that the majority of people attending these parties are Republicans who are outraged at the amount of spending that the Obama and his croonies in Congress are doing.
Here are a few things to think about. When you have a Congress that passed a bill with a price tag of $787 billion without reading it, you know it is time to protest. When you have a Congress that flat out states they aren't concerned if they lay trillions of dollars of debt on future generations and perform "generational theft", then you know it is time to protect. When state governments start inventing new taxes to make up for their budget shortfalls, then you know it is time to protest. When you have a Congress that raises corporate taxes which send companies and jobs oversees, it is time to protest.
We need politicians with guts. Someone to say enough is enough and start cutting spending. Now people in the public sector will lose their jobs but they will be picked up by the private sector when companies start producing more. We simply cannot keep raising taxes to make up for state governments that have not been fiscally responsible. The federal government giving them money is only making the matters worse. Hats off to those states (Texas, Alaska, South Carolina, Mississippi - I may have forgotten one or two) that refused most or all of the stimulus money.
Now repeat after me "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore", feel better???

Thank You United States Military
I want to take a minute from the politics of today and give a shout out to our military. A miracle happened on Easter Sunday. After being held captive for four horrifying days, Capt. Richard Phillips was freed thanks to the herotic work of our brave men and women who fight for this country everday. So, today I want to salute them and say simply "thank you" for fighting for the freedom we take for granted.
On a side note, I read on the Fox News Channel ticker, the Italians want our help in freeing 10 Italians from a hostage situation. They seemd amazed that we would do all of this for one person. Like we would do anything less.
Happy Easter

it's dejavu all over again
Can't Obama find anyone to fill his cabiniet that has actually paid their taxes on time? This is getting ridiculous and proving that Democrats don't mind raising your taxes because they don't pay them. If they can't vet people for government positions better than this, then we are in BIG trouble folks. This shows their level of incompetency and inexperienece.
It's day 72 of his administration and we still don't have several key positions filled including about 17 positions at the Treasury Deparment (I thought we were in an economic crisis?). I guess I was wrong....
Perhaps Obama should appoint an accountant just to handle his cabinet members taxes. There's one job created.
Memo to Geithner, Sebeluis, and Solis, tax day is April 15.
